What is a Kewish Design?

The number one question we are asked is "What is a Kewish Design?"
A Kewish Design is something made by either Lisa or Josh Kewish
("Kewish" is a Celtic surname of Manx origin)

Both of us were born with creative mojo. Lisa has studied music, drama, theater arts, visual arts, graphic arts, photography. Josh studied drawing, painting, and sculpture. Our years living the creative life combined comes to over 90 years...that's a lot of creativity!!
In 2006 we began the time-honored process of apprenticeship with master silversmith, Aleris Hart. She taught us that each piece is a small sculpture. This concept carries over into our work today.  We strive to make unique objects infused with our sense of beauty and great design. Our goal is to make high quality, hand-crafted jewelry that you will not find anywhere else.

Lisa speaks:
Copper is mesmerizing! Copper was known to some of the oldest civilizations on record. It has a history of use that is at least 10,000 years old, and estimates of its discovery place it at 9000 BC in the Middle East. I love the idea that a copper pendant was found in northern Iraq that dates to 8700 BC. It is a trip to think that my pieces will be around in 10,000 years! My work has a strong organic feel that emphasizes free-flowing shapes and a fusion of metals. Copper is alive!! It reacts with its environment and is in a constant state of flux. I love to experiment and fearlessly cut, hammer and heats metal, all the while listening for the metal to “speak to me.”

Joshua speaks:
I love to draw, especially people. I bring these skills into my metal work, although my jewelry designs tend to be geometric. A stone will often be the inspiration for many of my jewelry designs. I have been known to spend hours contemplating a piece of turquoise or opal, sketching designs in search of “the one.”
